| Aerial Silks for Kids
Aerial silk training has quickly gained popularity among adults. Silks have become an interesting way to activate the body, an alternative to other activities, and a method for a strong and slender body. Now it's time for the youngest. It turns out that children can benefit even more from such a form of training. Aerial silks have a very positive effect on their overall psychomotor development and motor coordination. Additionally, children learn self-discipline and increase body awareness. Exercises on the fabric also improve the functioning of the vestibular system. Besides, aerial silks for children are also an excellent tool for play! The youngest love to climb the fabrics and tangle in them, and seeing progress, they are motivated to continue working on their bodies and more. From what age can you train on silks?
Aerial silks for children can be used by young children and there is no lower age limit considered appropriate. Usually, children from 6/7 years of age are accepted to the first aerial silks classes. These are kids who have sufficiently developed coordination and are able to master the basics of the technique. However, it is important that a child in early school age does not immediately perform combinations and difficult figures. The first months of training are a period of assimilation. Children learn how to function in training, get to know the discipline in the room and their coach, and become accustomed to the new environment. A large part of the classes consists of playing with the use of silks, while the aerial technique is shown gradually, as the group develops.
In the case of the youngest, e.g., at preschool age, these are not strictly technical exercises. Such classes are mainly based on simple developmental and rhythmic exercises and have the form of play.
However, when it comes to competitive sports, it is not recommended for children under the age of 11.
How to choose an aerial silk for a child?
Aerial silks for children are chosen according to the same criteria as silks for adults. This means that the most important factor is the height of the ceiling/suspension and the type of ceiling. The safe length of a vertical silk for a child should be the sum of twice the height of the room + a minimum of half a meter of silk on the floor on both sides. The formula for the minimum length of silk for a room with a height of 2.5 m would therefore be: 2x2.5 + 2x0.5 = 6 m. Moreover, when choosing a silk for a child, it is also necessary to check what type of installation is possible. This depends on the type of ceiling.
