Aerial hoops, also known as aerial lyra or acrobatic hoops, are equipment used for aerial acrobatics training. This activity involves performing exercises using an aerial hoop suspended from the ceiling. As a training, it brings a number of benefits: it strengthens the muscles of the entire body, shapes the figure, increases flexibility and grace, and teaches coordination. Additionally, such exercises are good fun!

Aerial Hoop diversify aerial training and provide an interesting break from other activities, e.g. pole dancing, aerial silks, training at the gym or fitness room. They are increasingly becoming the favorite equipment of both experienced acrobats and beginners who are looking for interesting ways to get active. Types of aerial hoops

Aerial Lyras can be divided into several types: 1-point or 2-points, with shackles and 0-point. Which one to choose? This is a matter of taste. Therefore, it is worth choosing the number of handles only to suit your needs and preferences. However, it should be noted that 1-point aerial hoops are the most popular around the Europe. 

Importantly, aerial hoop also differ in diameter. We have 6 sizes to choose from external diameter: 80 cm, 85 cm, 90 cm, 95 cm, 100 cm, 105 cm. These parameters should be selected only according to your height. In addition, aerial hoop can also have different tube diameters, finishes and shapes. How to choose the size of the aerial hoop?

Aerial Hoops should be selected according to the user's height. There are two ways to check what diameter will be suitable. To obtain the best measurements, we recommend using both methods and comparing the results. However, the second method described is usually more measurable.

The first method is to measure the length from the top of your hip bone to the floor. The measurement should be taken while standing. We add 5 cm to the result. The resulting number is the ideal diameter of the aerial hoop, thanks to which you can perform acrobatics and figures without embarrassment.

The second measurement is performed while sitting on a chair. We measure the distance from the top of the head to the seat. Approximately 15 cm should be added to the obtained result. Due to differences in body proportions, the obtained dimensions may differ. In this case, use the second method.

Does the diameter of the aerial hoop tube matter?

Just as in the case of choosing handles, the diameter of the lyra should be selected according to your needs and preferences. Most people prefer aerial hoops with a tube diameter of 27 mm. This is the optimal diameter - guaranteeing grip and comfort.

How to hang an aerial hoop?

The method of hanging the aerial lyra depends on the type of ceiling and the material from which it is made. Therefore, to ensure safe use later, you should contact a professional rigger who will assess which installation will be best for a given type of structure. However, there is no doubt that suspended ceilings require the most attention, because in this case a hole must be made and the ceiling mount should be installed in the actual concrete ceiling. 

During installation, it is worth considering the suspension height. It is generally accepted that the circle should be at chin level or higher. However, optimal comfort will only be ensured by adjustment. Moreover, the ability to adjust the height is a must for every aerial acrobatics school. To make such adjustment possible, you need to hang the aerial hoop on special fastening belts (also available in our store) or velvet strops or attach them to orbiters (a solution recommended for aerial schools dance).

Aerial Hoop taping

To increase grip, circus wheels are often covered with professional hoop tape. This method is called taping and professionals willingly use it. You can do the wrapping yourself or buy a hoop that's already taped. Our offer includes, among others: taped aerial hoop.
