| Crash Mats
Safety during training depends on several factors. These include the quality of the equipment used, experience, type of activity, the diligence of the trainer, and safety measures. One of the basic training equipment that ensures safety is undoubtedly a crash mat. It's hard to imagine a comfortable and successful workout without this extremely important accessory. It significantly reduces the risk of injuries and almost completely eliminates dangerous falls. Additionally, this applies to almost every discipline: from gymnastics to aerial acrobatics. Moreover, a good sports mat works great both for home use and in a pole dance school, fitness club, or aerial studio. It's one of the essential pieces of equipment for any athlete dealing with gymnastics or acrobatics. For children, it can also be a great place to play. You can find tested, safe, and high-quality crash mats for different disciplines in the Flying Rose offer.
Which crash mat to choose?
The type of crash mat should be chosen according to personal preferences and the type of activity. A completely different product is recommended for pole dance and another for children's play in a home gym. Attention should be paid to: thickness, size, firmness, filling, and material.
Each training mat should be selected according to the size of the room and activity. A standard size is considered to be a mat of 200x120x10 cm. It is a product that allows the performance of most exercises and works great during various types of training. However, slightly different standards must be adopted when an acrobatic mat is needed for aerial hoop and aerial silks. In this case, crash mats of standard dimensions or circular ones, with diameters from 1 m to 1.5 m, are used. As for thickness, it mainly depends on the height at which the equipment is suspended. The minimum thickness is considered to be 10 cm. Under frames and for higher rooms, we recommend mats with a thickness of 20 cm.
Other characteristics are seen in pole dance mats. They are usually circular, with a diameter ranging from 120 to 160 cm and a thickness between 5 and 15 cm. Pole dance mats must have a cutout allowing the mat to slide onto the pole. For homes, foldable mats are popular, which are easier to store between training sessions.
Every crash mat also has a specific firmness. Soft mats are recommended for light workouts, stretching exercises, and for children. For aerial acrobatics, soft mats may "hit the ground" and not provide sufficient cushioning, hence in this case we recommend a harder option.
The ideal filling of a training mat does not deform or compact. It is most often polyurethane foam, which combined with good material (PVC or leatherette) maintains its properties for a long time.
In our store, there are two types of mat coverings: PVC (otherwise known as plawil) and leatherette. Both are waterproof and can be cleaned with water. Leatherette works great in home conditions, while PVC is characterized by greater durability, making it suitable for outdoor training and in gymnastic halls.
How to care for a sports mat?
After training, every crash mat should be cleaned and disinfected. The care method should be chosen according to the material of the product, but a universal method is to clean the mat with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent. The product must dry well before it is folded and stored.
